It’s the weekend, y’all! Anyone up for a round of WIN / FAIL?
WIN: DH and I are in Sonoma! He is doing a 75-mile bike race through wine country today along with Markos, and I decided to tag along for the trip. Napa/Sonoma is one of our favorite places in the world and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Wine tasting, anyone?
FAIL: We booked this trip months ago and didn’t realize it coincided with Mother’s Day weekend. So for Mother’s Day I . . . asked my mother to watch my two children.
WIN: We flew into Sacramento in order to get haircuts from our very favorite stylist and dear friend. We moved away five years ago and we still can’t quit Kevin Michael. Plus, we stopped for lunch at our favorite pizzeria before driving over to Napa.
FAIL: DD’s class held a Mother’s Day Tea yesterday, which I didn’t find out about until long after our plane tickets were booked. Maya burst into tears when I told her I couldn’t attend. “But Mami, we are going to sing songs to you and give you cookies,” she said tearfully. “If you don’t come, you’re going to make me think . . . you don’t like cookies!” I felt awful, yet had to stifle a giggle.
WIN: My beloved aunt agreed to be Maya’s substitute Mami and attend the tea in my place. I arranged for Maya to sleep over at her best bud’s house, and today they will take her to a kids’ concert at the Pacific Symphony. And we changed our flight so we will arrive home on Sunday at 4 p.m., in time to take my own Mami out to a nice dinner and present her with a lovely gift.
I guess the wins outweigh the fails . . . this time. Phew.
