I’ve been commenting a lot, so I guess it’s time to introduce myself. I found this blog through Street Prophets. I’m a full-time working mother of 1 almost 5 year old boy and partner to a former clergy now teacher. Growing up in a girl-dominated home with 2 sisters, I never considered parenting a son — I figured *my children* would be girls — though I never considered treating a boy differently than a girl child. I really enjoy him. He’s big into Thomas and golf — both since he was about 2 years old. I know way more about sharks, fire fighting, and dinosaurs than I ever thought possible.
I guess I’m a second wave feminist for whom the book The Dialectic of Sex by Shulamith Firestone changed everything. I was pretty intolerable for a few years 🙂
I was 42 when our son came home, via adoption, and hope to have a second child in the next year….I had good role models in this: my mother was an “old mom” for her time because she had her first child at 29 and my dad was 40.
I’ve worked in the tech world for almost 20 years. My husband, my son, and I live on the East Coast — seemingly permanently in transition.
