Women's Equality Day

August 26, 2006

It’s Women’s Equality Day, marking the ratification of the U. S. Constitution’s 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Don’t forget to exercise that right this fall. There are still a lot of other inequalities to work on . . . .

If you want a laugh, you can read President Bush’s proclamation of the event. Do you think he really knows who Elizabeth Cady Stanton was? (Of course, we have to credit Bella Abzug, not GW, for introducing the legislation to honor this day.)

I feel I should tie in a mom-related theme here. It’s the weekend, though, so I’ll keep it light. Anyone have any funny or enlightening stories about explaining voting/politics to your children?
