So our family has a new addition:

Meet Winter. He was found in the street when he was about 4 weeks old, apparently separated from his litter. We met him and his foster mom at a Petco a couple of weeks ago, during a cat adoption event. We fell in love with his gentle demeanor and snuggly personality.

Still, this was not a decision we made lightly. I used to be highly allergic to cats, but seem to have outgrown the allergies somehow. Now we have to see if my mom has any sort of reaction (she used to be allergic, too).

The only other time we had a pet, we were newlyweds. I had never before owned a pet, and the outcome wasn’t great: we worked full time, the dog was very needy and she ended up destroying stuff while we were away. When we moved back to California and into an apartment that wouldn’t take dogs, our pooch went to live with DH’s mother, where she enjoyed a pampered life for the rest of her days.

It’s 13 years later and I’ve had children, so my level of patience is much higher than it used to be. I’ve never had a cat and it will take some getting used to. But DD is over the moon with her kitty, and quite frankly, it’s nice to have a baby in the house again.  🙂
