It’s Thursday! And DD starts 2nd grade today. Wow.
This was a crazy summer of construction, travel and weddings, so it really feels like we blinked and it’s over. Ah well.
I’m stoked because Maya got the teacher we hoped for and her two best buds are in the same class. We will pick her up from school and fulfill our annual tradition: a trip to Dairy Queen, where she will tell us all about her first day over a dipped cone 😀
How have your kids’ first days in school been? Who hasn’t gone back yet?
In other news, have you seen the viral video of the little boys sobbing over the ending of “The Odd Life of Timothy Green”? I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch, only because I empathize with these kids. It’s their “Bambi’s Mom” moment.
Yes, there comes a point in our lives when we’re all faced with these moments, when we realize that even though we’re watching a movie made for kids, there’s a harsh reality that something we’ve grown to love—our pets, our parents, our Macaulay Culkin—can, and will, be taken away in a heartbeat. After that, nothing can ever be the same.
There’s a reason we haven’t allowed our sensitive DD to watch The Lion King yet, much less Bambi.
Among the moments listed were the two that turn me into a sniffling mess each and every time: Dumbo’s mom singing “Baby Mine,” and the opening sequence from Up. :sob: I watched that shortly after my grandfather’s death and a heartbreaking miscarriage. I remember DD looking at me strangely and asking why I was crying so much. I SO was not prepared for that!
What are your “Bambi’s Mom” moments? Any movies you’ve had your kids steer clear of? Why or why not?
