So, how exactly does one go about starting or finding a playgroup?
By way of background and introduction, here goes: I’m the mother of a beautiful eight-month-old daughter, light of my life, etc., etc. I have fond memories of the playgroups I grew up in, and my mother swears that the friends she made with the other mothers in our little groups have remained with her lo, these 29 years later. Sounds good to me – as does the idea of finding the little girl some friends for her to bond with.
However, and perhaps complicating matters, DH, daughter and I have just moved from London to Melbourne, Australia and I’m feeling at loose ends, to say the least! (I know, I know, it’s a tough life…)
So mothers, any suggestions? Hover meaningfully with my daughter at the nearest playground sandbox? Smile at all and sundry mothers and children that pass in my vicinity? Is there a Rules for Playgroups out there? I’m joking, but am I alone in thinking that making friends on the Mommy and Me circuit is at least passing akin to dating?
Broadening the discussion slightly, what role can playgroups have in a child’s development? Speaking from the very personal, I am still in touch with some of the little ones from those days. Anyone else have memories of their playgroups?
Looking forward to this discussion!
