What’s up?

I am back from a fabulous long weekend in Alexandria, Virginia! I went to my high school and college friend Rachel’s baby shower — and even got to see my mom who was invited!

We had a lovely time. I arrived Thursday night and Rachel and I spent the day together on Friday…at the spa! I got an ego boost as my young masseuse told me I did NOT look like I had children — bless him! — and I got my hair straightened out. The do lasted like two minutes since it rained non-stop the entire time I was in Virginia. By the time I arrived in Oakland Sunday morning it was very wavy, although Eli said, “Mami, I can tell it’s straight!” I love my girl.

On Saturday morning, the day of the baby shower, my mom, Rachel and I met up with our Joanne — and Baby Layla! — for an MT reunion! Joanne is an original MTer and this was my first time meeting her, which was great.

The baby shower itself was well done. It was all women — fabulous women from all parts of Rachel’s life — plus great food, drinks and games. I did win one of the games, in which we had to touch a bag and guess what was in it.

Rachel received the essentials and practical and fun gifts like the puppet wash cloths and this awesome wedding cake of diapers and bath toys:

At the end of the shower, Rachel’s DH Frank came to pick us up as well as load the baby gear in the car. Frank was a gracious host. He drove us everywhere, including my mom and I to and from the airport, and cooked for us two nights in a row. He and Rachel met when they were both in their 30s and married only a year ago. As a girlfriend at the baby shower noted, “Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince.” He is a prince alright.

The second photo is of my mom and Rachel.

And now it’s back to the grind, er, digging my way out of four days worth of e-mails. What’s up with you?
