My apologies in advance for the paltry post. I’ve had a couple of intense days. Two nights ago my sister and I ended up in the emergency room with my 8-month-old niece who has a virus and ear infections. She was throwing up non-stop, had a fever, looked incredibly pale and was lethargic.
We ended up waiting six hours in the hospital in Berkeley, only to be told that we should have taken her to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. I cut out after the hospital in Berkeley at 1:30 a.m. as I had to get up early for work. My sister took the baby to the hospital in Oakland on her own and came home at 5:30 a.m.. And to think this is the best health care system in the world — what a freaking joke.
The baby is fine now, by the way. The following day she was beaming and cooing as if nothing had happened while her mom and aunt looked like wrecks. lol!
Still, Katrina Alcorn at Working Moms Break gave me a perspective check as she published a blog by a stressed out mother in Portugal. Despite certain generous leave policies, parents there face other pressures and stresses not unlike American moms. I thought the piece was super interesting.
What else is in the news? What’s up with you?
