Bi-Racial Babies

March 14, 2006

When I was pregnant with my son, I went through a lot of turmoil. Beside the fact that it was an unplanned pregnancy, he is biracial.  I’m of Mexican descent, his father is black.  So, my little man is what I affectionately call a “blaxican”.

Being a first generation Mexican, I had to walk my parents (especially my father) through very old prejudices. It was hard, but well worth it because now, my father absolutely ADORES my son.

That being said, I find stories such as this one out of Great Britain, fascinating.  Kylie Hodgson, 19, and Remi Horder, 17, are both of mixed race with white mothers and black fathers and had fraternal twins. What makes this story so interesting is that one twin is white, the other black.

How can this be? The Daily Mail reports that parents Kylie Hodgson, 19, and Remi Horder, 17, are both of mixed race with white mothers and black fathers. According to the Multiple Births Foundation, baby Kian inherited only the black genes from both sides of the family, while baby Remee inherited just the white genes. The odds of this happening are 100x100x100–or a million to one. “It was a shock when I realized that my twins were two different colors,” Kylie told the Mail. “But it doesn’t matter to us. They are just our two gorgeous little girls.”

Oh, another interesting note…What do the twins have in common? They love apples, grapes and “Teletubbies.” Plus, the also adore each other. Awwwww!!!

The link I posted above has a family picture of the parents with these adorable twin girls!!
